About

'OME, a visionary project founded by Shaun Majumder, a Canadian Actor/Comedian and proud native of Burlington, NL, encapsulates both elegance and charm. Shaun's illustrious career has seen him share the screen with esteemed actors and comedians on Canadian and American television, leaving an indelible mark with roles in popular shows such as '24,' 'Detroit 1-8-7,' and 'The Firm.' Notably, he graced the screens for over a decade as a beloved cast member of the renowned Canadian TV series 'This Hour Has 22 Minutes.' Furthermore, his comedic prowess has led him to host the world-famous 'Just for Laughs' comedy festival, leaving audiences across the country in stitches.

Beyond his achievements in the realm of entertainment, Shaun holds a profound affection for his hometown in Newfoundland and Labrador. Growing up amidst the captivating blend of his East-Indian father and Newfoundland-born mother, Shaun and his sister flourished in the close-knit community of Burlington. These formative years shaped him into the exceptional individual responsible for his remarkable success, granting him a unique perspective unmatched by many in his industry.

The Genesis
In 2007, Shaun's purchase of a modest piece of land in Burlington, a mere $2700, with an additional $500 for back-taxes, coincidentally brought him back to the grounds of his childhood school. It was on this hallowed ground that the seed of an idea began to sprout—a vision to breathe new life into a rural town grappling with the weight of an economic downturn.

This ambitious undertaking soon became the focus of a captivating television series on the esteemed 'W Network' titled 'Majumder Manor,' which captivated audiences for two seasons. The show documented the evolution of an idea, birthing the inception of a grand initiative that has now blossomed into the awe-inspiring endeavor we witness today.

The Power of a Name
The dialect and accent of Newfoundland and Labrador are renowned as some of the most extraordinary in the world. Forged by a rich tapestry of diverse influences and passed down through generations of immigrants, this linguistic treasure has earned admiration far and wide. In addition to their distinctive accent, Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are celebrated for their unyielding work ethic—known as 'working away.' It is said that individuals from this resilient land have scattered across the globe, diligently contributing to countless nations. These hardy, industrious people, despite enduring years of economic hardships, often find themselves far from their beloved homeland—a place that will forever hold their hearts.

Wherever a Newfoundlander may wander, the island they call 'HOME' remains an enduring connection. Yet, due to the region's iconic accent, the 'H' sound is tenderly omitted, giving rise to the affectionate moniker 'OME.

Our aspiration is for Burlington and its surrounding region to be embraced as 'OME—a place where you can truly experience the warmth of its welcoming spirit and revel in its friendly ambiance. Above all, we extend an earnest invitation for you to discover this haven and share your experiences, spreading the word that there truly is no place quite like 'OME.
